How to Download a Bank Statement

Get your bank statement online, in a bank app, at an ATM or branch, or by mail, then convert the statement PDF to Excel or CSV.

You can get a bank statement five main ways: through online banking, your bank's mobile app, an ATM, at a branch, or by requesting one by mail. Online banking and the app are the fastest, since you can download a PDF right away.

A bank statement is a record of your account activity over a set period, usually one month. It lists deposits, withdrawals, fees, and your opening and closing balance.

Online banking

This is the most common method, and it gives you a downloadable PDF.

  1. Log in to your bank's website.
  2. Go to the Accounts or Statements section.
  3. Pick the account and the month or date range.
  4. Download or view the statement.

Most banks keep at least a year on file, and many keep several years. The download is almost always a PDF, which keeps the layout fixed and prints cleanly.

If the PDF asks for a password, it's usually based on your own details, like your date of birth and part of your account number, or your ZIP code. The exact format is normally in the email the bank sent with the file.

Your bank's app

The app works the same way as the website, just on your phone.

  1. Open your banking app.
  2. Tap your account.
  3. Find Statements or Documents.
  4. Select the month and download or share the PDF.

This is handy when you need a statement quickly, like sending proof of income while you're away from a computer.

ATM or branch

If you'd rather not go online, you have two offline options.

At an ATM, you can print a mini statement showing your recent transactions. It's short, so it's fine for a quick check but not a full monthly record.

At a branch, a teller can print a full statement for you. Bring an ID. Some branches charge a small fee, especially for older statements.

Request by letter

Sometimes you need to request a statement formally, like an old record the bank no longer shows online, or a stamped copy for a visa, loan, or legal purpose.

A request letter is a short note to your bank. Include your full name, account number, the period you need, and how you'd like to receive it. Many banks have a template, and some let you request it online instead of writing a physical letter.

Turn your statement into a spreadsheet

A PDF is fine for reading, but it's awkward if you need to sort transactions, total them, or import them into accounting software. Copy and paste usually breaks the columns.

If you want your statement as a spreadsheet, you can use Bank Statement Converter. Upload one PDF of up to 14 pages and it pulls out the dates, descriptions, and amounts into clean rows you can open in Excel or Google Sheets. It handles statements from a wide range of banks, including scanned and password-protected PDFs.
